This video was posted early in 2011 – and I urge you to watch it in it’s entirety (about 20 minutes). It is an interview between a plant pathology expert (see below) and Dave Murphy, founder of Food Democracy Now.
It’s at the end that a leading expert in the plant disease field, Dr. Don Huber, Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology, Purdue University, speaks of the danger that the new pathogen, already present in GMO corn and soy, could present to the newest of the GMO crop darlings – alfalfa.
Alfalfa is the number one foraging livestock feed in the US, Canada, Argentina, France, Australia, the Middle East, South Africa, and many other countries. It is a perennial and openly pollinated. In other words, once alfalfa is genetically modified in the open environment, it’s only a matter of time before ALL alfalfa is genetically modified due to cross pollination. This is not science fiction. This is what is happening to our food. I just googled Roundup Ready Alfalfa seed and clearly by the results I saw, this seed is widely being sold to farmers in the US and abroad.
The video is technical, long-winded at times, will likely never go viral – but SO important. In fact, it’s only had just over 6000 views since it’s posting – a testament to how information like this flies under the radar and is, in many cases, suppressed in the interest of profits.
