The more I absorb the multitude of articles available on the topic of genetic engineering and how it applies to mass food production, the more I realize that at the base of all of the hullabaloo is one fundamental entity – as humble as it is life producing.
I am speaking of the seed.
The seeds are what are genetically modified to produce the desired traits and in some instances, combinations of traits. Today, 60% of our planet’s seeds are controlled by just five companies. Five. Much of this 60% of seed is protected under intellectual property laws and patents. Is the biotech goal total seed world domination? I don’t know about you, but my imagination runs wild with that premise.
If Monsanto and its counterparts can sue farmers for patent infringement, shouldn’t God be able to build one Mighty lawsuit against biotech – for intellectual property right infringement?
