Series: The Benevolent Side of GMOs
Today’s post is a continuation of my last post titled In Their Own Words: Farmers Weigh In On GMOs.
Growing Season, a website devoted to compiling a yearlong docu-drama about a central Nebraska farming family growing a crop for the year’s harvest, passed along this link to its YouTube channel. There is a video clip of “Boss Joe” Bartak talking about what GMOs have done for farming in the area. This clip hardly depicts the dismal portrait of large scale conventional farming painted by anti-GMO activists!
Some key points Bartak makes in the video:
1. Conventional farmers and ranchers are environmentalists too!
2. He points to a field that hasn’t been sprayed with insecticide for four years because of GMOs.
3. Soil health is being improved in the area because of GMOs.
4. Farm workers enjoy a safer environment because of GMOs. They are no longer exposed to organophosphates, carbamates, and other more potent pesticides.
